WWE is one of the biggest sports businesses in the world. It has a global appeal and is known by almost everybody, regardless of whether wrestling is enjoyed or watched by those who know of the company.
Due to its worldwide fame, many have been part of the company and have become just as famous. In fact, some have perhaps become even more famous than the wrestling promotion, with some having made it big in Hollywood.
Here’s a rundown of some of the most famous icons from the WWE and why they have become huge names within wrestling and perhaps even beyond.
John Cena
Perhaps one of the biggest names ever to have been made by the WWE, John Cena is now a huge Hollywood star. He was the face of the WWE for most of his tenure with the company and has been one of their most successful stars.
He is a record 16-time world champion, and this could change as he announced that he plans to retire from the business at the end of 2025.
Outside of wrestling and films, he has been involved in charitable events, most notably being the man with the record for granting the most wishes for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For the man that says, “You Can’t See Me,” you can see him everywhere.
The Rock
The Rock, Dwayne Johnson, is another household name that has had the WWE to thank. Like Cena, he has gone on from being one of the GOATs of professional wrestling to becoming one of the top Hollywood actors.
He has been credited with being one of the men who contributed to the success of the company during the 1990s and 2000s, with his gimmicks and catchphrases becoming known outside of the WWE ring.
A 10-time World Champion and a host of other titles, ‘Rocky’ is one of the best to have ever done it. “Can You Smell What The Rock is Cookin’?”
Stone Cold Steve Austin
Give me a “Hell Yeah!” if Stone Cold Steve Austin is one of the greatest icons ever made by the WWE?! You definitely won’t be saying “What?” to that statement, as he had as much of an impact on the popularity of the WWE as The Rock did during their heyday.
They both had some of the biggest battles and catchphrases that made them popular with everyone worldwide. Stone Cold is one of the most famous WWE stars, and he has been used to promote the company in various ways.
Triple H
Arguably one of the biggest names in wrestling ever, Triple H is now the man in control of the WWE. Paul Levesque is the company’s head of content and creative, meaning he is tasked with making sure the best show possible can be produced.
As a veteran of the business and one of the most successful to have ever done it with nine World Championships and numerous others, as well as being married to Stephanie McMahon (Vince McMahon’s daughter), he would seem like the best man for the job.
In the ring, he was part of the biggest stories and groups, with his place as the leader of Evolution and Degeneration X among the notable, while ‘The Game’ was one of the best to ever do it – whether it was with his famed sledgehammer or not.
The Undertaker
Think of the greatest wrestling main event to happen each year, and you’ll think of WrestleMania. Now, think of the greatest wrestler at this event, and you’ll think of The Undertaker.
Known as ‘The Phenom,’ he went on an undefeated streak that stretched to 21-0 before Brock Lesnar ended it at WrestleMania XXX in 2014 in what was billed as “the most shocking result in WWE history.”
The Undertaker was so much more than his WrestleMania streak, with ‘The Deadman’ being one of the most iconic characters to have ever stepped inside the ring, as everyone knew about his attire, his chilling entrance music, and the eye-roll he did when he lifted his hat from his head revealing either his long locks of hair or the shaven head in his final years.
Too Many WWE Icons to Name
The unpredictability of WWE matches and storylines also fuels the growing interest in WWE betting. Enthusiasts enjoy speculating on everything from the next big champion to surprise returns, making the matches even more compelling.
One cannot even attempt to name all the superstar wrestlers that the WWE has been able to nurture over the years and develop into legends, and all of them deserve their own credit for what they have been able to achieve in the ring.
Individuals like Ric Flair, Edge, Batista, Rey Mysterio, CM Punk, and Randy Orton could all easily be named as being among some of the biggest names to have represented the company at some point and would easily fit on another list based on the same topic.
Nonetheless, all of the above have to be considered some of the best of all time, as they were unique not only inside the squared circle.
